Platform manager: Mr. Mohamed HANAFI
The SIMM Laboratory has several thermal analysis devices, three DSCs: Q 200, DSC25, and DSC Discovery, and the latest ATG: the SDT Q650, all from TA Instruments, which gives us a wide range of options for studying the thermal behavior of materials. Our laboratory being dedicated to fundamental research and teaching, we welcome a wide audience, including researchers, students, and interns from ESPCI, as well as external visitors from partner institutions (PSL, Sorbonne University) or industry.
The platform is located on the 1st floor of the main building.
Rules of operation:
OPENING HOURS:
Open every day from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., except weekends and holidays.
How to perform thermal analyses at SIMM:
Laboratory members:
To use the platform’s equipment, you must have the authorization of the manager, who will have trained you beforehand (interns, doctoral students, researchers). You can then reserve the various devices available on the laboratory’s intranet.
The manager is available in case of technical problems.
ESPCI members from other laboratories:
– For a small number of analyses (less than 10)
All requests must be made to the platform manager, who will carry them out under the conditions of the SIMM laboratory. Equipment reservations will be made exclusively by the platform manager.
– For a large number of analyses,
The work should be performed as part of a collaboration agreement. Training would be provided by the manager. Users (doctoral students, post-docs, researchers, etc.) could then use the equipment. Equipment reservations will be made exclusively by the platform manager.
ESPCI from partner institutions or industry:
All requests must be made to the chair of the lab

Use of the platform is subject to the following rules, which are designed to ensure its proper functioning:
The platform is responsible for supplying consumables. If consumables run out, the manager of the plateform will provide you with more.
Students and postdocs work under the supervision of their supervisors. Permanent staff work under their own responsibility.
Safety instructions
Follow the instructions on the safety data sheets for each machine.
It is mandatory to wear personal protective equipment: lab coats, safety glasses, and gloves, which are available in the laboratory.
Under no circumstances should you be alone in the room; the presence of a permanent laboratory staff member is mandatory.
Any failure to respect with the safety instructions may be reported to the ESPCI Prevention, Safety, and Maintenance Department.
Any user identified as not complying with these instructions may be denied access.
Machine maintenance and cleaning
The manager is responsible for maintaining the equipment and machines provided. Users must clean the equipment properly after each use. Tools must be returned to their original locations (spatulas, scalpels, cutting pliers, etc.).
A collective cleaning of the room may be organized from time to time. You may be invited to participate.
Teleworking
The manager, when teleworking on an occasional basis, will be able to assist you remotely on the various devices via VPN.
Summer closure
The use of devices during the summer closure is prohibited.
