Water film squeezed between oil and solid: drainage towards stabilization by disjoining pressure

What happens when an oil drop is driven toward a solid surface into a water bath ? This phenomenon, common in the oil industry, is poorly understood. A team at PIC (joint laboratory between SIMM and TOTAL) evidenced three successive regimes for that collision: a purely hydrodynamics regime followed by two regimes controlled by both the hydrodynamics and the long-range interactions across the water film squeezed between oil and solid.
